  • Year 4 travel back in time at Burghley House

This week, Year 4 pupils enjoyed a fun and fascinating trip to Burghley House as part of their Tudor history topic.

The day began with a lively workshop where children learnt to greet King Henry VIII and discovered more about his six wives, intriguing inventions, and larger-than-life personality.

Afterwards, they explored the beautiful grounds and had lunch in the park, soaking up the spring sunshine. The highlight for many was a tour of the Tudor kitchens, where pupils were amazed to learn about the unusual jobs people had and the strange dishes served — including swan and turtle!

The group then climbed the original grand staircase, following in the footsteps of royals like Queen Victoria. In the grand bedrooms, they spotted secret doors hidden in the panelled walls and saw Queen Elizabeth I’s ornate bed.

Art lovers in the group were captivated by Burghley’s famous murals, especially the dramatic Hell Staircase and stunning Heaven Room.

The day ended with laughter and fun as pupils played traditional Tudor games in the courtyard, bringing history to life in a memorable way. A huge thank you to the guides who made the day so special and our wonderful children for being so engaging, inspired and respectful!
